House Held Up By Trees

When it was new, the house stood alone on a patch of bare earth, although a wilderness of trees grew in the lots on either side where children played. In front of the house, the children's father planted a perfect lawn, where not a single shoot or seedling was allowed to take root. But then the children grew up and went away, and at last their father moved away too, and as the empty house began to decline, the seeds, shoots began to appear, and soon the trees reclaimed it for their own.

With quiet, wistfully beautiful illustrations by Jon Klassen, this is a thoughtful and sophisticated picture book about the passage of time and the power of nature, which will particularly appeal to older readers.
